Rights & Permissions Requests
We believe knowledge should be shared responsibly. If you’d like to use content from USC Press (text, images, or excerpts) for teaching, publishing, media, or creative work, this page walks you through the permissions process. You’ll also find information about classroom use, reprint requests, and how to contact us to clear any rights concerns.
Reprint Permissions
If you would like to request permission to reprint content from a USC Press book for use in another publication, please send a request to Jolie Hale, publishing assistant, at halejm@mailbox.sc.edu, or by mail to University of South Carolina Press, 1600 Hampton Street, 5th Fl., Suite 544, Columbia, SC 29208.
Please include the following information in your request:
- Title and author of the USC Press book
- Page numbers and/or word count of the content
- Details about the publication in which you will include the reprinted content:
- Title (or working title)
- Author or editor’s name
- Publisher’s name
- Estimated publication date
- Estimated list price
- Estimated initial print run
Before submitting a permission request, please note that rights to many illustrations and images used in works copyrighted by the University of South Carolina Press are not controlled by USC Press, but by the owner of the image. If the material is credited to another source, please direct your request to that party.
Classroom & Academic Permissions
If you are requesting permission to photocopy material for classroom use or place material on e-reserves, please contact:

If the Copyright Clearance Center cannot grant permission, please contact Jolie Hale, publishing assistant, at halejm@mailbox.sc.edu or by mail here and include the following information in your request:
- Title and author of the USC Press book
- School and professor requesting material to be copied
- Page numbers of requested material
- Approximate number of copies needed or users who will access it
Subsidiary Rights
If you are interested in acquiring foreign, translation, book club, audio, digital/e-book, dramatic, or paperback/hardcover reprint rights to a University of South Carolina Press book, please contact Jolie Hale, publishing assistant, at halejm@mailbox.sc.edu.
